For what it is worth, if it will help, your computer (MV520-series) 
generally came with the "56k ITU V.90 modem3".  On the Compaq 
site under Support, you should be able to Search for the driver for 
your modem possibly by the above quoted description.  Or try 
searching according to model number of your specific Presario (ie, 
7890, etc).

Furthermore, I believe your system should be PnP (Plug and Play) 
which Windows 95/98 should be able to possibly find your modem 
for you when you go to Start|Settings|Control Panel|Add/Remove 
Hardware.
