Above 150 degrees F is probably too high. I have had Sony's go up to 150 degrees F and been "OK". What type of temperature test equipment are you using? I'm using a radio shack digital thermometer with an alligator clip glued to the outside temperature probe. I then clip the probe on to the heat sink as close to the transistor as possible. The heat sink can get quite hot compared to the transistor itself. Just finished a CTC 185. Rebuilt the Power Supply with suggested kit. Heat shields seem too hot. Replaced multiple components which helped but still seems a little warm. Would some of you guys that have temperature test equipment check the temperature of the heat sinks on the CTC185 and send either me personally or the group your results. Just purchased temperature test equipment and want to start a data base for some of these chassis. The reason for the CTC185 is because of the way they use a winding in the FBT to feed the regulator.
