I suspect the "good" chamois is synthetic, which I find to not have the
fiber problem.  I bought a sheet of it for ~$8.00 at Walmart two years ago
and am still using peices from it.   Probably will be another year from now.
I just drop them in the washer and they are good for several washings.  I
like it more than the pre-fab swabs because I can fold it several times to
get it to hold more solvent and can apply more presure with my fingers to a
dirty capstan, etc.
