That is normal, the zenior voltage is lower than the voltage the meter uses 
at its tips to test diodes, thus a small reading will be observed ( I 
learned this a while back on the same diode) by the way isint that diode a 
2.7v zenior. pardon me if I am wrong but I am going by memory.
