Also if the Capstan bearings are bad you will get bad audio in a HI-FI
set...will
also cause the tape to ride outside of the proper path.....

To adjust a/c head find the control track pulse usually around the servo
multi monostable area. Find it with your scope and adjust ac head height
(big screww on thread) using the big screw for maximum control track pulse
amplitude. Then adjust azimuth for crisp audio. Use a high quality new
pre-recorded movie tape not one recorded on another vcr. Must be an
optically recorded tape or it will have ac error already on it.sAll
adjustments should be very close to start with so if you have to crank them
something is wrong. Alot times it's a bad pinch roller crushing and pulling
the tape off the phsical track of the head. Best way to test for that is see
how the tape path looks in search modes.Watch tape path closely and go in
forward/reverse tape search and look for crinklies. Been working on vcr's
since 1981.
