Ed, if you use Internet Explorer 6, go to "HELP" then "ABOUT IE6" and it will say that it is encrypted to 128 bits. I can't see any browser desined these days to not be at 128 bits, unless it is for export to a country where the US government has banned them from using that technology. Also, when you go to the web site that you want to do a transaction on, make sure the web site is encrypted. Instead of http://www, it should read "https://www. The "s" in the http means that it is a secure web site.
