That's some serious lifting capacity!    I have to wonder how well I would
retrieve a rocket if the main canopy were to inflate?   Put a hook on the
apex of the main chute?

what are the better motor/escs to support max efficiency etc.   I had my
little 3DR Pixhawk quad up in the sierras a week ago, and found that I had
to swap out props due to the 7K altitude to get a little more flight
time.   I was only getting about 8 minutes with nothing other than a 2 axis
gimbaled GoPro for payload.

Ok, so speaking of drones ...

Here's what I will be flying, it is 1200mm span, lifting capacity of 43lbs
and a range of over 8miles with a flight time of ~ 37 minutes with 10lb
payload. We plan to test out some more if all goes well maybe do some
gridding and small missions.
Best of all, all of the parts are built and designed by me (including some
major electronics - Radio/GPS is Real Flight
Systems).

We're turning 18x6.5 CF props with a 5lb 22Ah 50C Lipo .... here it is
before first test flights
at Mt Hamilton ... at BALLS, it should be able to recover/scout for many
vehicles as well as
multi-spectral aerial photos.I plan to have it go and recover/find any of
my rockets - with a
grappling hook it should be able to recover a 25lb N1000 bird from 1 mile
away and bring it back
- we will test that theory at BALLS in the fall - maybe I will recover
Greg's rocket :-)

Hopefully Shawn Maylen gets some good testing in for me with our latest
firmware out past the away cell.

We will discuss Drone rules at the fliers meeting since this should never
interfere with Rockets
but only help us get the job done better and of course find/recover them
for us.

So here's the deal - since we're in the middle of the summer and it will
be 100F at 2PM,
we should plan on starting promptly at 9:00am and doing tear-down at 2PM

So plan is:

Meet - 8:30 - setup by 9am

Should have us all at home by 5pm in time for a cold one before dinner!

Oh yeah ... other stuff to chat about around Lunch

Show and tell (S&T) with the FSU folks that Tony is bringing (Drones and
Rockets)

Rod is bringing out Double-O Nike for S&T  that we have been working
on for the last year - (yes, we got the coupler finally from Curtis
through
a small miracle from Mike Stoop)!

Shawn Maylen and I will be showcasing our commercial/heavy-lift drone
Mk-1 Prototype we have been working on for the past 6 months...

LDRS update on accomodations and group discussion.
