I think that you should try to install a steering system from a '68 Olds Toronado. You would have to replace everything from the steering wheel to the hubcaps, and it would stick out pretty far forward, but it would steer pretty good. Make sure that you don't use one from the '71 because it may not fit.

Anybody ever try this?

Subject: [tcb] steering box rebuild

well i have begun the final welding on the inner lower front panel and the sterring box will probably have to be removed inorder to do a few minor touchups with the por 15, under coating, and the welder. I have decided that while i have it out i ought to think about a rebuild.

i have a new drag link, new tie rod ends everywhere but still have play in the steering wheel the final conclusion that i can draw from this is the steering box. what should i look for in doing this? how difficult could this be? should i be able to get needed parts at the local classic vw supply shop?
