Use a long screwdriver, place the handle end to your ear and the other end to
the suspicious areas. That will help you isolate the sound.

it's an old problem, it has been doing it for over a month and that is with
driving it to work a couple of times (30 miles 1 way) and driving it to conway
for a show (250 round trip). runs great just hear that squeky noise at idle.

it has no side to side play but it does have a bit up and down movement i'd say
about as much play as my rockers after being adjusted, just enough to notice.

no sign of wear on the contact points just on the side of the cap. around #2. i
haven't started him up in 2 weeks and he fired right up last night though.

the only reason why i suspect it is the distributor is because of the gouge in
the side of the cap and you can feel it tapping when you put your hand on that
area of the cap when it is running. what else could i be hearing? it is comming
from something external because you can't hear it when the decklid is shut but
you open the deck lid and can hear something comming from top side and by
dwindeling down the areas i keep comming back to the distributor. i have
jiggled the fan shroud to make sure it wasn't it, checked tension on the belt,
cranked it for a moment with no belt to make sure it wasn't the gennerator
(only for like a second guys, not long enough to do damage), regardless of what
i do i can hear it and it is comming from top side.
