While you got the engine out make sure none of it is on the clutch disc.  Might
be a good idea to just replace the clutch disc anyway while you are there.

as you may recall it started popping out of fourth on my way home from
denis' house. it got so bad i was having to hold it in gear going up hills.

well, i pulled the old transmission off the motor last night...evidently the
input shaft seal went out in it the bell housing was full of a deep dark
greenish grey stuff. the starter was covered in it as well. the throwout bearing
had it on there too. to confirm the theory i checked the fluid in the
transmission...it had very little in it.

CHECK YOUR TRANNY FLUID!!!!!

but thanks to sammie i've got a new transmission mounted and will be
putting fluid in it tonight.
