Here are my specs on hemp:

Effect: High
Taste: Good
Reaction to heat: Really good
Effect of light and outdoor exposure; Too bright, man!
Reaction to acid; Whoa, way to intense, Dude
Cleanliness and washability: What?

andy one thing i just discovered is that hemp is absorbent. i wouldn't think you would want that in a canvas top. seems as though then it would eventually cause all the birch wood ceiling to warp and stain. i think i am goign for the canvas instead. here are the specs on hemp:

luster: high
strength: high
elasticity: low but could be treated to improve
heat conductivity: high
absorbency: high
cleanliness and washability: high
reaction to bleaches: will weaken
reaction to heat: will scorch and burn
effect of mildew: highly resistant
effect of light & outdoor exposure: very resistant (won't fade)
reaction to alkalies: not affected
reaction to acids: easily affected
affinity for dyes: very good (could be dyed)

my main concern would be that it absorbes water instead of repells. but since it is a 55% hemp - 45% cotton blend would that help with repelling instead of absorbing? i think i will do the traditional type and just leave the top up and let it dry when it rains on it.
