You can buy replacement caps but not original with the VW emblem.  They are NLA 
unless you happen to find someone who has one left in inventory somewhere or 
you can find a used one.

Steve thought maybe the original cap had got clogged up with age and is not 
venting, can you buy a vented cap  anywhere?

Also Sharon it sounds like your cap is already vented. I non vented would hold 
the gas in the tank and would cause the gas tank to implode on a long trip due 
to negative pressure buildup as the gas is used up and no vented air entering 
the tank thru the cap.
