so the bus wasn't running good, you would have to stay on the gas just to keep it running. i replaced points, condensor, checked plug wires etc. i cranked it up it runs like crap with new points, i check the gap, still runs like crap. i call denis he says you probably have a vacuum leak, i get it started. it runs like crap i spray carb cleaner all around the possible areas that would have a leak, it never smooths out. then my dad said maybe the wires aren't on there right i check they are dad insists we switch 2 and 4 so we do it still runs the same...like crap. BUT WAIT it still runs the same wich means something isn't firing right. "ok dad, i am going to get it started you unplug wires one at a time." crank

guess what i replaced...if you guessed cap you are right. i went saturday and bought a new cap set the timming bumped the starter and it fired right up and runs beautifully.

there was some carbon buildup around where the coil hooks up to the cap and around all the plugs. at first i thought it was oil but it was carbon because it even went up in the connection. for some reason it was throwing spark outside the distributor cap. evidently if you leave it sitting in a moist area for a while with out running it it can do this. and well, every time it rains, rain runoff goes right through my shop. i will no longer park it in the shop unless i have to.

i am driving the bus today and man he is running great, even though i put the cheap stuff in him this morning.

denis, is murray up and going again?
