Don't have any ether at the moment. 

What would cause fuel to go down the throat of the carb and never make
it to the plugs?

Pulled the 1/2 valve cover and the valves are moving (which I assumed
was the case anyway since I got compression readings).

This is a single port 1600 with an H30/31
