Congratulations to Volkswagen Owners of San Antonio for a great show last
Sunday. Over 100 cars and a great crowd of people milling about the square for
a great VW show. The weather held out again! What great luck!

After lunching with Paul, I drove a winding route to Boerne that took me down
the prettiest road yet. Until this past weekend I thought the drive from
Medina to Vanderpool along Hwy 337 was the greatest (and maybe still do),
but...if you get a chance try 1174 from Bertam to Smithwick heading south.
What a view! at one point the road started to turn right and disappear. I
slowed to 40 mph to take in the view. Now, there had probably not been another
car for 20 min but of course, I hear the varoom and am passed rather quickly.
Sorry, but the VIEW! Rolling hills, absolutely beautiful!

Wandered along to Kendalia, Tx. (Thanks for the reminder, Duncan) Stopped
to take a photo of the town sign. This is my grandmother's home town and I had
never been there.

Went on to Boerne. Jeff Josenh, of VOSA, had invited folks camp on his 20
acres south of Boerne, so when I got close I called and introduced myself.
When I arrived I met Jeff and Judy Josenh. They have a beautiful place and had
a sweet campsite for us under large oak trees. I then met Sam and Angie, owners
of a very nice stock beetle (around 69?) and Kevin, owner of a very nice,
bright yellow convertable beetle(early 70?) and Scott, who didn't have a VW
running at the moment. We set up camp and sat back to relax and visit. Not
long after dark, Josh and David Blade joined the camping group. As it started
to really chill off, Jeff set off a huge bonfire which was really warm and let
us stay up talking until the early hours.

Saturday morning we made the only breakfast of VW campouts, BREAKFAST
TACOS!!! Seems that it's the common breakfast of all VW'ers! In the
afternoon, 22 VW's met at Boerne square for a cruise. We wandered down senic
hillcountry to Comfort, Tx. We stopped along the Guadelupe to visit then
headed to PoPo's for dinner. During dinner Paul and Joe caught up with us.
After dinner, the campout grew with Jeff and Lee in their westy, Don and Dawn
in their "Herbie" beetle and Wesley in ?year?(mid 60) but it was loud (the
next morning, I thought Blade had left but it was Wesley... tell you how loud?)
Once again, we kicked off a bonfire but this time it was differnt. David had
brought half a case to throw on the fire (not beer, engine case!) When the
fire got hot, into the fire went the case. Quite a site I looked forward to
see but I don't really want to see outside of an intended campfire burn. (good
move Brian for fast thinking!) We talked about next year having a
case bonfire. Now that would probably light up the whole pasture!

Sunday the weather was terrific for a show. Slightly cool in the morning but
really comfortable most of the day. The turnout was over 100 cars. Our fellow
camper, Angie won the raffle grand prize, a very cool bicycle. Angie and Sam's
car, as well as Kevin's and David's took trophy's (and I think Don and Dawn's,
too!). Congrats to them all.

Like I said, Jeff and Judy had a really great place to camp for the VOSA show
and we campers were very lucky to have such open, kind hosts. They are the
kind of people that really enrich the VW community. They open their
door/pasture to allow us to hang and get to know more of the community. Thanks
so much to Jeff and Judy, you are great people.

Well it was really a great trip, thanks to VOSA members for your work. Great
show!
