Denis' friend Tim sent this to the list:I have been talking with Dennis and he suggested that I email you guys and
see if you might have any ideas.I removed my engine to replace my transaxle and while it was out I cleaned
it. I took everything off except the cylinders the heads and dog house cooler. and put it back together with new gaskets everywhere with theexception of a new gasket between the carb and the intake. (which is now
leaking a bit of gas so I have ordered a new one and it will be in today before lunch) My bus is a 1967 12vI have a 1641 that apparently came out of a 71-73 (according to the AE on
the engine and the timing chart in the muir book) it ran great before I took it out. I do not have a vacume advance distributor. It had an electronic ignition in it that I think was keeping it from sparking initialy so I replaced it with points and condenser and set the points according to muir. I also replaced the coil although I am notcomplete sure I needed to. I have a new cap and rotor although I have tried
the old one.I am having troubles with what I think is a timing issue. I have timed it according to Muir which will get it to start the timing is 5 degrees after
TDC the motor runs better at 10 degrees before TDC. with that timingadjustment I can get it to run for about 10 seconds it revs up to 3k rpms (my guess) and then dies. The exhaust fumes burns the fire out of my eyes(I
don't know if that is related.)any ideas would be appriciated. I am planning to take it camping to Bull
Shoals lake if I can get it running today. Thanks, Tim I added him to the list.
