Paul: The one in the engine compartment is the vin or chassis # and the one
behind the seat is the body #. Both numbers indicate that this vehicle was
built in very early model year 1958. Probably built around the first or second
week in August of 1957. If he looks at the very first line on the plate behind
the seat there should be a five digit #. This # indicates the build date. For
example: If it says 10 08 7, this would mean that it was built on the 10th day
of the 8th month in 57. Or, as we would say August 10, 1957.
