Let's see if I got this right.  You put safaris in because they are cool and
then you tape them shut with either packing tape or masking tape so that they
will work like windows should if you didn't have the safaris in the first
place!  LOL

And if you're gonna do it right you gotta have those funky kind of wiper shafts
and the ducky thing that holds the wipers in place etc etc etc.

Safaris come with their problems, I do think it matters where you get them and
their design. I have Izzies and they have a ridge around the outside so they
“tuck” in to the rubber, Paul has Wolfgang’s. I hear the best are CE’s from
England. I am working on a threaded lockdown, so that you can tighten the
windows down harder for more seal. I have on window with the new imporved
version and it leaks a whole lot less. I say LESS. Anybody who tells you they
don’t leak is lying. Izzie insists on Crazy Glue for the rubber to form a seal
against the body, and I believe he’s right there. If I know it’s going to rain,
for instance to Bulli Gras, I put clear packing tape around the outside and it
seals them and stops any leaking and it doesn’t look tacky. Be really careful
removing it, it will take the paint off. Dan says to use painter’s tape, it
will seal just as good but look stupid. And I have not welded down my brackets.

The first nice weather day or 100 degree Summer day you open those windows just
an inch and hit the road, you will forget about any of the problems.

put some glue on that.  It'll fix them right up.  I bought an old 59 bus with
original safaris back in the 80s.  The DPO had put silicone over the safaris
and the seals on the outside to keep them from leaking.  Safaris are great,
just don't drive around with them "too open" in Texas.  These local county
mounties don't take kindly to "cool" driving trends.

Hmmm, frames don't fit.  Another reason for remaining safariless?

Actually he hasn't painted that part yet, that's why I have to decide if I will
regret it one day. i.e. don't weld them incase I want to go back to stock. I
can't imagine making that decision that's why I was curious what ya'll that
have them think.

I told him I'd let him know tomorrow.

Besides I have to send mine back because the frames don't fit.

They are popular and a lot of busses have them.  None of my busses have them.
If you bus is already painted doesn't that sort of negate the possibility of
welding the latches in?

I guess this is kind of a poll. For those of you that have them are they worth
the drawbacks? Wind whistling in even while closed. The water coming in and
apparent fogging up while driving?

I was asked by Jay if he could talk me out of putting them on because of
possible rust and annoying wind noise. I told him I knew of the problems but
wanted them anyway.

How many of you wished you had stock windows instead?

How many of you had the brackets welded in instead of screwed?

Thanks again. This Bus is coming along nicely. The underside and inside are
painted!
