I can tell you that EMPI uses crap powder coating. The one on my bug is empi.

What brand of roof rack should I get for the rear of my 23 window? There is a
46" from Vintage Warehouse for $435 and a 45 1/2" from EMPI for $299 and a set
of locks for $35.
Is there anywhere else I should look? Wolfgang has them but I really hate
buying something that expensive without seeing a photo of some kind.
