Lisa if you email me the pics directly (off the list) I'll host them and email out the link. Why not jack the rear end up, and roll it into the garage on a floor jack? Done that before, whew, kinda sucks. --- On Tue, 8/5/08, Todd and Lisa Prigmore <prigmores@xxxxxxxxxxxx> wrote: From: Todd and Lisa Prigmore <prigmores@xxxxxxxxxxxx> Subject: [tcb] Re: Our new bus! To: tcb@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Date: Tuesday, August 5, 2008, 1:58 PM Naw, not really. Todd just thought that bus was hysterical. I particularly like that they kept the ladder. We actually bought a 1955 Kombi. It is a Wolfsburg bus built in August of '55. It was produced for Canada (it has km/hr on the speedo) and has semifores instead of the bullet turn signals they had switched to for the US. We got it home from Toronto last night and it took two hours to get it into the garage. Some idiot put in a different tranny and screwed up the linkage for the shifter or some such nonsense so we couldn't get it into neutral to use the towbar we'd brought. Anyhow, it was two owners ago that happened and the guy we bought it from had never gotten it running since he was focused on the body work of his Ghia. In the meantime, the tranny siezed up and the rear wheels wouldn't turn. It had to be tow-dragged onto the trailer up there (the Uhaul auto carrier in Toronto) and back off again here. It was a nightmare. We just kept praying we'd get it in the garage before the rain started. (The bus currently has no windows either). Luckily, it was accomplished with no injuries to the transfer team (Todd, myself and Todd's dad) or the bus despite it actually falling off the ramp on the way down. The bus is a bit of a mess but it's going to be great once Todd works on it some. Our goal is to get it blasted and primered first and then in running condition by Bulligras. Body work to follow. We hope to have it done in time for our son to learn to drive in it. He's currently five so we think that's doable. I'd post a pic, but I don't think the list allows them and I'm not sure where to post it to get a link. Any suggestions? We could also use suggestions for a place to sandblast (or other paint removal method) and primer it. Of course, if there are places we should steer clear of, let us know those too. Thanks, Lisa '55 Kombi
