I took the motor back out last night and it appears I need to do just a little more grinding, but the "good" news is that the flywheel was a 6V (the one I took out originally). So I took out the starter too, and low and behold it's a 6V too. So I put the starter up to the new flywheel and the teeth don't want to mesh... So I guess that's why it didn't want to engage the motor! I just ordered one of those SR17X auto stick starters (you don't have to deal with the bushings). We'll see what happens then!
