Thanks for the info Steve. That is some timing for your daughter! Glad the
dealer stepped up and took care of her.
We have not had a single mechanical issue in 50k+ miles on the TDI, but that
fuel pump failing is not something I want to experience in the next 3 weeks. We
have been keeping it parked during the week and only use it on the weekends
when needed. We are going down to one car with the TDI buyback, the 90 Vanagon
Carat. I have been getting it prepped and it has been quite a project. Pulled
the dash to fix the heater fan, rebuilt the entire AC, and finishing up with
new brakes. Bulligras will be our maiden trip after all the upgrades.

Didn't want to hijack the Bulligras thread but saw that Nathan was turning in
his TDI on Saturday. It may be of interest and benefit to anyone turning in a
vehicle on the VW buy-back. My daughter purchased a electric Volt and was
scheduled to turn her Jetta back on Feb 3. The only stipulation for the
buy-back was it had to run & drive on day of buy-back. On Feb. 2 she decided to
drive it to work one last time. Before she arrived it sputtered, coughed and
died.
After having it towed to the dealership they came back (complete with video)
and told her that the pressure fuel pump had imploded sending metal particles
throughout the fuel system. The entire system had to be replaced and everything
cleaned & flushed out. The mechanic then told her that all cost will be taken
care of by VW; there was an extended warranty on the fuel pump because they had
had trouble with them. He also said that he would start work and have it ready
by 2 pm next day when her buy-back was scheduled.
We were very happy with Charles Maund dealership in Austin that took care of
her.
