It all depends on if they have a body man that can reshape the existing metal
back to it's original form. I have a guy working on my ghia that had gotten
side swiped before I got it and had about 3/4 of an inch of bondo on it. After
he "massaged" the metal back into shape, it only has a skim coat of bondo just
to fill the little imperfections. It had gotten hit hard enough in the left
rear that it had pushed the fender liner in. Now you can barely tell it had
ever been hit. Once the paint is on, you won't be able too. But, this is also
the same guy that did the body and paint on my Vanagon. Just tell them that you
want to see the progression of work before they spread bondo or start to paint.

But to me that's says bondo right? I have insurance that will cover fixing
it correctly so I think I'm going to insist on replacement. What do you
