Subject: [tcb] Egas carburetor?
I am looking at replacing my dearly departed dual kadron carbs and my guru up
here tells me that I should go for an Empi Egas carb. A two barrel synchronous
carb. He says that it would be more simple than the duals with better linkage
and lots of power. http://www.jbugs.com/product/47-0628.html It may require an ;
electric fuel pump. Any expert thoughts on that?
I am rebuilding the engine as a 2007, we split the case and found all inside in
very good condition. We had to split the case to get at the distributer and
fuel pump junk that had fallen inside the case. The pistons and cylinders are
OK, maybe needs new rings. Found a wierdness: on one of the cylinder heads was
something that looked like a wormhole between the cylinder and the head near a
valve and out to the exterior. Very strange. Fire source? Should have made a
dead cylinder, but I never noticed.
All in all I am very lucky. I think it had a lot to do with our local fire
department putting the fire out so quickly. By the way, I put the video up on
Youtube MURRAY THE 1963 VW BUS ON FIRE That was taken 4 minutes after I
called 911. The body is a little lumpy, but not as bad as when I bought him.
So, back to the dual Kadrons ($500) or Egas ($350)? What would you do?
