It's funny... But the driving position in a bus is actually quite comfortable
for loooong rides... Coming back tonite is crazy ... But it's cool out , no
traffic and the wind is blowing crazy but not as crazy as daytime ... Plus
getting thru Texas is the painful part!
Essentials I was thinking you need...
Paper maps because sometimes that's all that works...an iPod with 3852 songs on
shuffle...lots of paper towels for soaking up water when it's pouring thru the
safaris!
Must be In the panhandle... I smell feed lots.

That's some kind of trip in a splitty.  They are not on the list, but Ray &
Paula Decker are taking their 65 splitty on the Treffen cruise that goes from
the Canadian border to the Mexican border down the Pacific Coast.  Starts on
Aug 2 and concludes on Aug 12.  I am contemplating going in the Baja but
haven't convinced myself yet that 6,000 miles in two weeks in the Baja is
conducive to my old body.  Ray and Paula are trailering the bus to LA, driving
to Blaine WA and then doing the cruise in the bus.

Jake and I have done an epic tour of Colorado the past 8 days in Jerry,
Actually we are still in co on our way home but this is the first time we have
had good cell service .... We have been on the road less travelled.
Its an amazing trip. Of course just getting out of Texas by bus is long enough
... We cut back roads across to Clovis NM but before we got there we hit
literally the worse t-storm I have ever been in... Hail and at least 50mph
headwind because all Jerry had was 15mph... And no where to pull off we were in
the middle of farm country all those crop circles... Then the road drops to
nothing no shoulder can't see a thing....and we are 4 wheeling thru a soy bean
field.... Made it for about 100yds before we bogged down up to rear bumper and
side step buried . The hail had stopped but still rain soon trickled it looked
like we were on the middle of a lake....stuck.
Fortunately a farmer came by had a chain and pulled us up on the road..
We thanked him profusely and he said he had never seen water like it was out
there ...heck this was just day 1.
We have seen sites, hiked , biked, whitewater raft and had Jerry on roads that
said 4wd only! Climbed more mtn passes than I can think of including over
12,000 ' in rocky mtn national park.
And Jerry keeps chugging along!!!
We had one minor clutch pedal issue in Taos... The lever that the clutch Clevis
pin goes thru broke just wore out really ... Found a machine shop welded it all
up drilled a new hole for the spare Clevis pin and we were on the road again.
All I can say is... Drive these things, camp in them an see the countryside.
Gary and jake
650 miles to go!!!
