Two years ago I took Greyhound up to Illinois and picked up a '69 hardtop
westy for a friend.

1600 DP motor.

Driving back down I got about 16 mpg with my foot in the floor running
65mph. I did that until I realized I was WAY ahead of schedule.

When I took my foot out of it and stayed at 55 or below I got *30* mpg in
that bus.

I suspect a Type1 engined Bay will do better than an older split because it
doesn't have the fresh air "eyebrow" scoop (major wind drag) above the
windshield. Any hardtop should also do better han any poptop or roof-rack
equipped bus as well
