So I would like to know how you get to I 20 via 290? Enlighten me in my ignorance. By the way: My first trip to Big Bend was 1957 and have been many times since. I will take Hwy 290 to I 20. Just curious to see if we should try coordinating a meet up and cruise together? Maybe in Austin or Junction? Junction seems about right for a split drive (time-wise) from Austin. I camped along the way going down and coming back. 12 hours of driving a bus is tough on my old butt. Think you'll make it? Duncan -------- Original message -------- From: Ronnie Hughes <fracdogii@xxxxxxxxx> Date: To: tcb@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [tcb] Re: Big Bend Plans Good plan. I went to Rio Grande Village in the Spring after the classic. Very few people around. The road going to the Gravel Pit camping and La Clocha are fair. Past there the roads are pretty tough (I was in my son's 4x4. We drove Glenn Springs Road and needed it). I camped at the Chisos lodge campground. Very cool drive into the lodge, FIRST GEAR going up the lodge and I wondered if that was enough a few times. The challenge is cruising together. Not going to happen. !!!! There is a shorter, 10 hour route for the DFW crew rather than driving via Austin. The general concensus is to leave on 12/26. Due to the challenge of coordinating a cruise, I propose: We meet at Rio Grande Campground on Thursday, 12/27. Sites are not reserverable this time of year so we should have no problem. Note there are no hookups here, or anywhere in the park. Que paso? NO HOOKUPS ANYWHERE IN THE PARK. On Wednesday we can decide as a group to move to another location either up the mountain or deeper into the Big Bend or not. Alternative ideas or suggestions? Bark now rather than later.
