Mark,=20 I've been at for like 2 hours trying to get thing in there, the toothpicks don't seem to work. I think the shifter is shot (at least at the bottom) that peg won't stay in the housing and the spring is showing on the opposite side of the peg.=20 Even if I got it in there , I don't think it would shift that well ,seems to really look sloppy. When I took it out the peg didn't even move , I thought it was one solid piece until it fell out. I'm going to try and find a shifter somewhere.=20 Anyone know of one local to Houston (Junk Yard or something)=20 Trey -----Original Message----- From: tcb-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:tcb-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Mark Sawyer Sent: Monday, April 11, 2005 1:28 PM To: tcb@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [tcb] Re: Anyone ever taken out a T2 shifter?=20 Something that might help. Before you try to put the shifter back in, pull the little pin forward into the recess and take wooden toothpicks and jam them around the head of the pin to hold it in place. break off whatever wood is hanging out and reinstall the shifter. The wood will eventually work out but at least the pin will stay in place long enough to get the shifter back in. Let me know if this helps.---mark Trey Jung <Trey.Jung@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> wrote: I may try and reinstall it later to see if I can get it to drive.=3D20 Right now the shifter is out as I thought I would need a new (old) one from a salvage yard.=3D20 I'll let you know how the reinstall goes.=3D20 Thanks Mark... -----Original Message----- From: tcb-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:tcb-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Mark Sawyer Sent: Monday, April 11, 2005 12:52 PM To: tcb@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [tcb] Re: Anyone ever taken out a T2 shifter?=3D20 Is it drivable or do I need to come down there? I do have some free time Saturday morning. Saturday afternoon I will be working on the Hooch and preping the Vanagon for the Classic. Sunday I will be installing axles and the engine in a 71 squareback. Emily is out of town for the weekend so that gives me an oppertunity to give a hand to whoever needs it. ---mark Trey Jung wrote:Well I live here in Sugarland, way down here ...... wish I lived closer. It's not as hard as it seems. just takes a little patience. ---mark Trey Jung wrote:Mark,=3D3D3D20 Do you think I can salvage the shifter? I'm thinking that if I can get it into the shift rod that it will hold itself in place? Might not be perfect but ....... If you want I can come over and help get everything back in its right position. sometimes it takes 2 people to get everything right. one under the car holding everything in place and 1 up top to get the bolts started. let me know---mark Trey Jung wrote:I replaced the front nylon bushing on the shift rod this weekend. Reinstalling the shifter into the shift rod I had to do it a few times to set the pattern right. It shifter into all gears fine and even reverse but I took it out one last time to reinstall and the front of the shifter (a little dowel thing points forward to fit in the shifter) it popped out from the rear and has a spring in it. Now it won't stay in.=3D3D3D20 Anyone ever had to replace a shifter and have this happen. It looks like I have to replace the whole shifter (if I can fine one) (insert Scream and a few choice words here) Thanks Trey
