I did it once. Go to the DMV and tell them it's a car you saw that you want
to buy.

Speaking of finding people:  Does anyone on the list know how to access (for
free) a data base to find owners of license plates in TX.  That is:  if you
know the plate number, somewhere you can look up the registered owner.
Yeah, I know a friendly cop can do it, but I'm talking legally.

I tried several years ago when I was attending Havasu (BBB) on a
regular basis. It would have been a short drive for her and her
daughter. Never got a response from any of the addresses I found. The
only way to get a valid address nowadays seems to be signing up with
one of the "pay for info" services.
