I replaced the oil in The Ghia years (and years) ago and had no problem finding 
the GL4, I guess those days are gone. I was tracking that GL5 had additives 
that were bad (corrosive) to our gearboxes, is this something that “they” fixed 
with the newer synthetics?  Is Royal Purple a synthetic?

I just had to get some for a friends Bug. I noticed that all the synthetic gear 
oil was GL4 and GL5 compatible.

I suggest Royal Purple 90 weight gear oil.

I thought I had some in the garage but I was mistaken… 

 

I thought I could find some in one of the four FLAPS in Copperas Cove but I was 
mistaken…

 

Anyone have a source either local (to Texas) on online???

 

I still have what(ever) is in the transmission but I want to change it out.
