Sorry for the double up on postings but I didn't want to leave anyone out. I've
already submitted to this group but it is open to anyone. I will pass along
anything that seems appropriate if the bulk of you decide to decline the
invitation.

Hello!

For several years the Seattle Astronomical Society has sponsored and
used a Google discussion group entitled, "Through the Clouds."
Originally this group was closed to all except SAS members, but last
June the SAS board voted to open up the group to all interested
astronomers, retaining the emphasis on Puget Sound-area astronomy but
allowing membership to anyone simply expressing an interest in
astronomy. This decision was inspired by goals of outreach to all Puget
Sound-area astronomers in an effort to establish better communication
among astronomers who share concerns specific to observing and
astronomical pursuits in the Puget Sound area.

As moderator of "Through the Clouds" SAS discussion group, I invite
you as a leader of your club to join the group because I believe your
membership will be mutually beneficial for you and for SAS members. As
a member of the Google group, you will be able to make all group
members from diverse areas of the region aware of the activities and
concerns of your club, which you might want to publicize. Similarly,
through membership you can become aware of the variety of Puget Sound
astronomy activities and opportunities that are open to you and your
club members. Of course, you are also welcome to invite any members of
your club or other astronomers to join "Through the Clouds" since
membership is now open to all. We hope that this open membership policy
will foster communication and more opportunities for sharing among
astronomers in the Puget Sound region.

To join, go to this URL: http://groups.google.com/group/seattle_astro

I've set it up so that anyone joining must answer a question in
order to avoid enrolling spammers or other inappropriate members. The
simple statement "I am interested in astronomy." will be an adequate
answer. Or if you prefer, I could send you a formal Google group
invitation or just place you in the group by adding your e-mail address
to the list. Please let me know if you have any questions, if you would
like an official invitation, or if you would like me to just place you
in the group without any effort on your part. I do hope you will join
us.

Thanks!

Mary Anderson, Moderator of "Through the Clouds" and SAS member
