Thanks for clarifying this. So the only solution is to just keep asking you guys stuff, is it? It is the operating system that nokia phones use. You need to know this as it is the key thing that determines whether or not a phone works with Talks. If it doesn?t run Symbian then it doesn?t work with Talks. This information is not always easily findable on the phone?s literature which is why finding outwhat a phone runs on can be difficult. The mobile phone market is a nightmare at the moment and it is not made easier by all the major manufacturers rushing towards touch screen phones. The truth is that there is a lot of concern in the world as a whole that symbian may be dying as there are already 3 other smart phone alternatives in existence i.e. the apple IPhone, Google Android and Microsoft Windows. Will Nokia continue to support Symbian or will all the nokia smart phones end up being android phones? No one really knows for sure. Oh crikey lol; any ideas re- prices of these? I really did try to make a good decision when I bought my phone. Wish I?d known about this list before making the leap. As it was, when I went to buy my phone, they said the one they sold me was the only Talks-compatible one in the shop, and they knew nothing about Mobile Speak. Am guessing this means I?ll need to change my handset before setting about the software... Expletives omitted, with effort lol. Ok for the working satnav system you need a phone running windows mobile 6.5 and the Mobile Speak software which is a screenreader like TALKS. You then need to buy the Mobile Geo which is the satnav bit. Now that?s not a bad price if the product works as well as it sounds, is it? Hope this isn?t too o-t, but I?ve just been through the rigmarole of making an ATW claim to upgrade my Braillenote to the new Apex. I did this because I was told by Humanware tech? support that the Apex has sat? nav? on-board, as standard. This appealed strongly to me because I just can?t be doing with handling the Trekker, in it?s several pieces and high complexity, but do need a gps facility. Turns out, though, as you probably all know but I didn?t until I?d been right through the claim, that while the sat? nav? software is standard on the Braillenote Apex, the soft key to unlock it, and the Brother sat? receiver retail at a cool £900. I am, consequently, both looking for an alternative and spitting teeth at this level of sneaky rip-off. Why do we put up with it? More to the point, what is the cheapest effective sat? nav? solution, looking across all options? Sounds like Talks isn?t offering any great hope now, so I?m hoping that somewhere out there is the ideal compact, user-friendly and affordable sat? nav?, for use on a phone or by itself. Kapten Plus: Voice-Controlled Mobility Assistant - Available: beginning October 2010 Kapten Plus is a new generation of voice-controlled navigator, designed for visually impaired and blind people. This new GPS navigator designed by Kapsys, offers the main features available on the 1st generation of Kapten and adds on top of it some innovative features to ease the mobility of people with a visual handicap. Icons of the main functions in Kapten Plus New features The Kapten Plus new features include: A free navigation mode , which provides in real time a voice description of what?s around during your pedestrian trips : street names, crossroads, your K-tags nearby, etc. A dedicated button allows to launch and to stop the feature. A map discovery mode , which allows you to browse the embedded digital map to explore an area. This mode announces the road segments available from the departure point. Kapten Plus also offers an improved voice destination entry with the digit to digit address number entry. Kapten Plus integrates a complete vocalized user guide. This guide is accessible on the product via the MP3 player function. In order to provide an optimal navigation experience, Kapten Plus integrates a high-performance GPS which offers a faster time to first reception as well as an enhanced accuracy. The product also integrates the latest map data from TeleAtlas (version 06 2010), as well as an enriched points of interest database (more categories and points are now available). The "where am I?" function which allows you to estimate your position is now accessible in a click. In order to protect your Kapten Plus and facilitate GPS reception, the product is provided with a silicon transport cover, with a clip attached to it. The Kapten Plus pack also includes a mini-speaker kit, an earset with microphone and a USB cable. And still... Kapten Plus inherits from the most popular functions of the 1st generation Kapten: A speaker-independent automatic speech recognition from Nuance. The multitransport navigation, offering several navigation modes : pedestrian, bike, motorbike and car. The smart pedestrian navigation combining street navigation with city rail public transport. A track mode which allows you to record and replay your best itineraries. A The A to B itinerary calculation, which calculates the best route between 2 locations. The roadbook function, to browse a calculated itinerary in order to prepare your trips. The K-tag recording to save the position of your preferred or your most useful addresses. You can attach a voice memo to your K-tags, use your K-tags directory to start a navigation, or, in Free Navigation mode, be notified when passing nearby your favorite places. For your comfort and your entertainment, Kapten Plus still integrates : A voice-controlled FM radio. A voice-controlled MP3 player, with the possibility to leave pause tags when playing audiobooks or audioguides. A voice recorder to save your voice memos. At last, nearly 70 keywords are available to control and interrogate the product. Thanks to its advanced voice interface, Kapten Plus can be fully controlled by voice. Remark: The Bluetooth hands-free kit feature is no more available on Kapten Plus. Details 1. Voice interface Very easy to use, the vocal interface allows you to: On navigation mode : vocally enter your destination address (city, then street, then address number) then enjoy the precise and friendly voice guidance. The destination of choice can also be selected from pre-entered addresses (geotags, useful addresses, last addresses...) On MP3 mode : select a title or a group of titles through voice command (you simply indicate the tile of the song, the name of the artist or of the album, or of the shuffle list). On FM mode : select a radio station, without knowing its frequency, simply by saying the name of the station. The corresponding frequency is automatically determined according to the location of the device. On Audioguide mode : select vocally one of the visits available on the device?s titles list. When on visit mode, the device vocally guides you to commented points of interest and automatically starts the reading of the audio commentaries when you get near the site. 2. Pedestrian navigation Pedestrian navigation offers guidance that only uses ways that are adapted to the pedestrian (streets with a sidewalk) or that?s been reserved for them : parks, underground walkways, stairs, pedestrian streets or bridges? The itinerary process is optimized by taking into account the flexibility of walkers (no one way streets or a possibility of a u-turn, for example). Navigation execution: the navigation instructions are easier to understand for a pedestrian user thanks to voice guidance specifically designed for walkers: distances are vocally indicated (take a right on the third street), as well as street names and directions taking street numbers into account (ex : walk up Champs Elysées). Pedestrian navigation also offers the option of public transportation in big cities (subway, tramway, commuter train). An integrated public transportation software allows you to browse for routes within the transportation networks of the largest cities in Europe. The public transportation application creates a ?road book? that goes from the station of your departure to the arrival station and which can be played in sequence (step by step). For example : at the Place d?Italie metro station, take line 6 towards Nation, etc) 3. Ktags: geotagging on the spot With your Kapten Plus, you can, at any time, geotag your preferred places (home, bus station, doctor...) just by pressing the dedicated key. The device, then locates and record the position of the spot (if GPS reception is correct). You can attach to the position, a voice memo. Your Ktags can then be uploaded to the Kapsys web site to be completed, categorised, saved and shared. The Ktags databased stored in your Kapten Plus allows you to find and navigate to your favorite places or the ones shared by the Kapsys community members. For more details on the Kapten Plus features and on how to use the product, you can download and play the vocalized presentation as well as the complete user guide (audio version). Kapten Plus helps you to feel safer by: Telling you your precise location Giving you a description of what?s around Starting a pedestrian navigation to a destination point (with our without using public transport) Saving your useful locations...
