Yvonne,

The other way to do it is to flip between the incoming message and the outgoing message because you can have them both open. Works OK for me.

Hi Yvonne

It's nothing against you, and I sincerely apologise, but
I'll probably not read your messages if they are in that
format. I have too many emails a day
to try to figure out what is happening in one of them if
it's not in a familiar format.

Just out of curiosity, do you use a screen reader to
read the messages?
Cheers

Barry

if this is because i wrote between lines of text from

it when there is a lot to reply to
this is easier and less chance of leaving something out

Agreed Barry. I know sighted people do this a lot but
it is totally confusing for a blind person and sadly
and regretably as I would have liked to assist Yvonne,
I had to delete it also.

Got to say, until I read your message, Eleanor, I
thought that it was a mistake message from Yvonne,
where she'd hit *send* before putting any reply
after her name. I just deleted it without reading
past the second name. When I read your message, I was
prompted to read further and found that Eyvonne had
actually replied after Pete's message.
As far as I know, this is a form of top posting that
is not usual on the Talks list. Perhaps a mod can
advise.

I don't know about anyone else but I find this way of
response very confusing and I am not inclined to read
it. Would be helpful if there was a
marker of some kind if you need to repeat what was
said in the message. Well maybe it is just me.

Hi Yvonne

hi pete

Sounds like you are having fun :-)

When pressing Talks plus soft key 2 it did previously
say memory card; this feedback was removed in Talks 5
because it was deemed unnecessary and
potentially confusing to users - 90% of the time if a
user has a memory card in the phone they will know so
they don't need to hear that each time
they do Talks plus soft key2 to hear the
signal/battery strength..... So
that is why you no longer hear this being spoken now
you have Talks 5 installed.

thanks for that i thought for some reason i had
managed to make a default
called phone memory instead of the memory card being
the default if this was removed from 5 then that is the reason it
no longer says memory card when pressing menu plus
foft key 2 and not because of something i had done or
not done
Talks might now read icons that it previously did
not, such as Wireless Lan icons on the N86, this is
because the Icon identification system in Talks was
greatly improved in Talks 5 - a feature that most
people perhaps would not notice or maybe take for granted but it
added a great deal of added accessibility.

yes in 4 it never said as far as i know wireless lan
available if this is because i am in range of a wireless lan
location then it must
be next door or something because i don't have
wireless set up here i also notice that 5 when i press options says audio
settings where it did
not in 4

This icon is telling you that a Wireless lan
connection is available to you.... An icon that helps
you know if you are in range of a connection or
that you are connected etc..... (I do not have a N86
but this is how most
Nokia's work) the more you use and learn what Talks
can do the more you will be like....oooooohhhh I
didn't know it did that too :-)

with regards to your slider call settings, this
should not have been changed by Talks; as I have not
used a N86 I'm not sure if this is just a
quirk or a bug in the phone and perhaps some others
might be able to clarify on this? But look in
menu>settings and look for the settings for
the slider controls perhaps a N86 user can advise for
where to locate the
setting (for the N97 slider controls are under a item
called phone management in the settings menu) you
may even have some bugs left on the device from the
previous user; personally I would reset the whole
phone if buying second hand just in case the previous
owner inadvertently left something on there but this is not something I
would recommend if you
are not experienced and you do not have sighted
assistance available
the slider location i have found and it is set to the
following requirements

1 answer incoming calls on opening

2 end active call when closing

3 lock keypad when closed

i tried this out on a bt fixed line phone and when i
closed the slider the
bt landline handset went to a dead key tone
i also tried it today on another mobile handset with
a different number and it terminated the call but i
also have my home calls routed through vonage an
internet calls provider when i closed the slider the call was not terminated
but continued to ring
on the home handset when i opened the slider
i wonder if this is because the calls are routed
through the internet unlike fixed line and mobile

Regarding memory, I believe the N86 has a C: drive,
E: Drive and F: drive - C: being phone memory, E:
being Mass storage (8GB) and F: being your memory
card (16GB probably) - the C: drive is usually quite
small but the difference between Talks 4 and 5 in size is quite
unnoticeable so if
this is the only thing you have changed it sounds
odd..... Perhaps you have things on the C: drive that
you don't need and it needs a clean out....

you are quite correct in that it does have 3 drives
c e and f and that i
do indeed have a 16 gig card installed giving me 24
gig however do you know how much memory the c phone one
has? i probably have lots of things on there of which i
probably will never even use so i would like to
remove them but need to be careful in case they are
files for the software or perhaps shared files or
something and a I'm basing this on a guess of the location.... But go
to menu>applications>office>file manager and you
hopefully will see your drives and the size
available, press key1 when you are on the C: drive and
choose memory and you should be able to get a list of
what kind of items
on the phone are taking up what memory..... Just to
give you an idea if you are low on memory.

If you are low then you need to consider removing
anything you do not need.... But that is something
that may be good to discuss with Hussein if
you can as he has had a N86 so could go through with
you to know what items should and should not be
installed for that particular model
Hope this helps

Cheers

Pete
thanks
Yvonne

i may well take this offer up see how we go until the
weekend it says wireless lan available when i press the talks
key followed by soft
key 2
it use to say memory card
but now it says wireless lan available
i have no idea what is going on here
i have noticed 2 other problems

1 when starting up talks says memory low remove
some data from c phone
memory
then it clicks for a while then when i press the end
call button i get talks
speaking
when it said phone memory i never got it saying
memory low or phone memory
so i need to get it back to as it was

2 i have the slider command set to end calls when
slider is closed but for
some reason the call remains active
the ringing of the phone used to call the mobile goes
quiet but when i open
the slider the ringing tone on the phone used for
calling the mobile continues ringing
again like above up until i installed 5 the slider
would end the call and
the phone used to call the mobile went dead
any idea how i can put this right?

and of course how can i remove stuff from c when i
have no idea what is on
drive c
it is supposed to be 8 gig i cant of filled it already

but that was before installing 5
now when i start the phone it says about

Hi,

I'm a little unsure what you mean by the reader
saying "phone memory". It
doesn't do this when the phone starts up, and to my
knowledge never has.

If you mean the location where the application is
installed, you would have to uninstall the
application and then reinstall it. However,
honestly the space saving will not be that
noticeable compared to say, if you were talking about QuickOffice.

As for the difference between versions 4 and 5, 5
supports the mail client
on the N86, and also of course is the first version
to support touch screen phones, which won't of
course apply to the N86. V5 ships with updated
vocaliser voices which do sound better and have less
pronounciation errors for the corresponding dialects
than the v521 vocaliser voices shipped with Talks
versions prior to v5.
For additional information, you may try referring to
the release notes for
the v5 release which may well be floating around
somewhere.
Sorry I can't be of more help, but I'm also in the
midst of dealing with
a
bit of a crisis here myself. However, if there's
something straightforward I can answer for now, I'll
be only too glad to help. Also, an offer I can make
you if it's of any help at all, although I'm sure
others on here will have time to help, but if you'd
like me to go over the uninstall and reinstall
process in person, I'd be more than happy for you to call me over the weekend. It's quite
straightforward, but I'm
happy to explain it in more detail if you wish. Just making that offer
in
case it's of any use.

All the best,

H.

Well not a problem at all. Another way to go to
Talks is via the Menu,
then Applications and then Talks but the other way
is quicker.

    hi
i know but i just for the life of me could not
remember these things happen when you lose your
sight late in life so used to being fully
sighted so trying to remember all things by
using screen readers is difficult
so you will have to bear with me

Go in to Talks by pressing Talks key followed
by long press of soft
key one. Then Options by pressing soft key one. Arrow up from the bottom until you hear About and
select that. It will tell you. I asked you before
this past week and you told me you followed my
instructions and looked it up and it was Talks 4.
