Ja, that is correct.  Backup as a precaution but the UDP will preserve all
your existing data.

The most important thing is to ensure the battery is charged fully.  If
using the PC the updater will actually not allow you to update if it
determines the charge is too low.  Also, if using the PC, just leave things
alone whilst the update actually progresses.  Not to be boastful but I've
seen far too many phones that died because the cable was accidentally
knocked, or the program was accidentally shut down, etc.
