So everything should be left intact and I should be able to use the Nokia Updater myself?

Of course I'll backup to card first, just in case, then I'll need to know what to do if everything does go down ...

Please confirm I've understood correctly.

Hi Carol,

OK, assuming there is an update available, i.e. the phone
is confirming there is an update available, simply dial
*#0000# and then press options, check for updates and
follow instructions. Ensure the battery is charged
beforehand. You will not lose anything as the N86 has
UDP, User Data Protection on board.

If you have sight and/or if your screen reader supports
it, I recommend using the Nokia Software Updater, but as
doing it via the phone is of course completely accessible
regardless you could try this first.

HTH.
