Hi Neil.

Yes, points taken on board, however firstly I don't have the cash up front to have a new phone purchased unlocked, secondly with the phone being customized to work with Three, all the services such as Skype, windows live messenger, push email and other such services are guaranteed to work and finally unlike many of the networks who offer only the standard 12 month guarantee that comes with the phone, Three will replace my phone during the duration of my contract if it breaks, I'll also be able to get a loan phone if mine is economically repairable until my phone is back with me. I don't even have to go to a Three store, its all done via doorstep courier exchange too. Now that's what I call service.

All the best, Ibrahim.

Ibrahim,

Darren wasn't saying don't go on contract, simply have a contract without
the phone, this is often referred to as SIM only.

The networks have to subsidize the cost of the phones when you have one from
them, so this is taken into consideration.

You can often over the period of the term of the contract get a better deal
by buying a phone of your choice from Nokia or elsewhere, and then going on
SIM only from any of the providers, verse the equivalent cost for the same
period of getting the phone through the provider.

You can also often get more for your money going SIM only and don't forget
you get the phone you want, not only a choice from what they offer.

Hi Darin.

I wouldn't be so skeptical about contracts, if you make a lot of calls or
send plenty of texts then contract could save you a fortune. I just renewed

my contract with Three, I have 750 minutes, unlimited internet, texts and
three to three calls, free Skype and windows live messenger, free mobile
mail and 150 video calling minutes for £35 per month with an N86 on a 24
month contract. Horses for courses I guess, but I'm happy.

All the best, Ibrahim.

I won't ever buy a contract phone again. For 1 thing you get a much better
deal if there's no phone involved. As for talks, well the basic version just
doesn't cut it for me. Prem all the way.

   Hi List,

Thank you all for the fantastic information. I think it would be best if he
bought the upgrade himself as he would be in control.

Barbara was persuaded to stay on the list and I hope she still does. I think

the matter should be completely closed.

Kindest Regards, John

That is why I also don't buy Talks from them, or my phones come to that!

Which is why I stay in control of how I do things with Talks.

They are fine about giving me the money I have to fork out for the licence
swap each time I upgrade and that is fine with me.

You have to be aware that although Vodafone know about talks and the process
for getting it on the phone, they don't always know of all the latest
handsets talks works with.

That was my experience in January this year anyway.

Hi John

Yes, it is common practice for Vodafone to send any phone away to have Talks
put on it. What happens is that it goes down as a repair, and sent to their
repair centre, who then load Talks on.

They say it normally takes up to a week to do this.

Subject: [talks-uk] talks upgrade via vodaphone

Hi List,

I will try to get this e mail information correct.lol

A friend of mine has contacted Vodaphone regarding an upgrade to talks
premium. He was informed he would have to send the phone back to Vodaphone
for them to install talks.

Is this common practice or is there been an alternative arrangement?

I am really asking thus members of the list who are with Vodaphone and have
got the upgrade through them.

Kindest Regards, John
