Hi Barbra. I couldn't agree with you more on the size of these new phones. Unfortunately, people want to do more with their phones these days than just make and take calls and send and receive messages. Networks are in the process of launching new services such as mobile TV and radio, video downloading and soon we'll be able to watch movies on them. The result is that the screens need to accommodate these requirements and the phones themselves need to contain faster processors and state of the art hardware to support all these new services. Also, battery power is a problem on newer phones and I can see a time when batteries will become bigger as they need to be more capacious. New technology in that department needs to immerge if the batteries themselves are to stay small. And all because of a massive screen we don't even need! Well, I saw the N70 as I was offered it as a free upgrade but it isn't worth the Extra. I have a 6680 which suits me fine. ----- Original Message ----- From: Philip Martin To: talks-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Friday, March 03, 2006 10:04 AM Subject: [talks-uk] Re: phones Hi Ibraham, The consolation is that the smaller the phone the harder it is to find. I have an N70 which has the advantage of being thin, and fits in my pocket without a bulge. In response to Barbra's question, I have looked at the Symbian device list and it would seem that only a limited number of phones can run talks as most of the other manufacturers use either phones with touch screens or the new graphical symbian interface called UIQ. Unfortunately, I can't find any phone that runs the S60 interface that doesn't have a camera. I don't know about size, but you can be sure that most of the phones that are coming out these days will have these large screens and high resolution cameras which will inevitably mean chunky units for the foreseeable future. If anyone knows any different, please fill us in on this.
