not often Alex and yes I do not like the rubber covers on the e71 and e72
for covering the memory card either. Talking of which I don't even know
where the memory card slot is on the N97 Mini which I have.

Eleanor, how often do you change memory cards? Also on this point it's worth
pointing out that on my n82 which I had before my n86 the stupid cheep
plasticky door which covered the memory card broke off, even though I only
ever had one memory card in it and never changed it.

It says memory card because there is a memory card in the phone. If you take
the memory card out it will stop saying it.

it's not a short key i want to assign for this but just so that talks says
phone memory when i press talks and soft key 2 to get to where it says
network, date, battery level rather than it saying memory card
i will keep your suggestions for future use
however in the meantime my main queries are
1 how to i get to phone memory announcement when pressing talks and soft
key 2
2 where can i find my contacts
and tell if they are on the phone memory or the sc card without dissembling
and reassembling the handset
but my questions are getting answered and soon all will be asked for this
handset

Yvonne not Graham Lol! but anyway here goes. You are asking about setting a
short-cut or hot key to get to the memory card and your choice is soft key
2. You will possibly have to set the standby screen to basic to do this but
again I cannot be sure with the N86. If you are able to go to Tools or
control Panel and settings, general, personalisation home screen and basic
and then press soft key option key and select open. You then have 2 items
in a list. One says home screen basic and the other say shortcut keys. You
can choose the shortkcut keys by selecting that and then I esxpect you have
set shortcut keys in the past so you probably know how that works. If you
do not then arrow until you hear something that indicates soft key 2 and it
will say what the current shortcut is on that key. In my case it is camera.
Then if you want to change it press select and you will get all the options
in a list. you will then go through until you come to the memory card and
once on that press soft key one to confirm that you want the soft key two to
be the shortcut key to the memory card. You must realise that this is just
roughoy the case as I do not have an N86 but it should give you a rough
guide as to what to do.

i did indeed purchase it second hand not sure what buy and sell group but it
may of been the one i believe you own
correct me if i am wrong in thinking you own one of the buy and sell sites
the beyo reader i am told is not all that good anyway
i have heard from other sources that it won't work properly
i am currently awaiting a reply from the previous owner about talks versions
he is going to contact Steve regarding the latest version he purchased
all in all i think the n86 is a very good handset and the keys being raised
are acceptable for both blind people and those with dexterity
not sure on a few things yet though but as i ask questions on here they are
getting answered
Eleanor has solved 2 or 3 of my queries already and i only got the handset
yesterday
however perhaps you can tell me how to i tell if i am in the phone memory or
the sd card memory?
and how do i switch from one to the other
i want to be in the phone memory when i press talks and the soft key 2
i am also informed that sight and sound or whoever they are do a better
version of the beyo reader well so it should be better at £650

Steve Nutt will confirm this but I believe that the beyo CBS reader is tied
to the sim card so if you've bought this secondhand with the phone it won't
work with your sim card as it was licensed for the previous owner's sim and
I don't think you can transfer it, you will have to buy a new copy. I think
beyo is good for the money but the downside of it compared to the kurzweil
reader and text scout is that you can't save what you have scanned. I am
sure Steve will put me right if any of this is incorrect. Cheers! Graham

the reader is £75 so you are correct
the reason i cant get to the sim and memory cards is because the back cover
is different in fixing to other handsets
all other handsets the back cover had a small button of which when pressed
in allows the cover to slide down or up depending on removing or placing
back on
this one has a small groove under the bottom edge of the casing and i have
no finger nails
if i could find something that i can use in place of nails then i will be
able to add remove or change the sim and memory cards
why can't nokia leave things as they are
why do they have to keep changing things around with each handset they
release
the charging unit has been changed as well
first of it was a 3.5 mill jack plug this was changed to a 2.5 one and now
it's of the u s b style type

You are right phone switch is a more effecient means of transferring data
from one phone to another. I would have thought that someone with an N86
could tell you how to get to phone switch. Phone switch does indeed use the
Bluetooth mechanism for transferring data. I would have also thought you
should be able to remove a memory card without sighted assistance but again
I could be wrong. On all my phones I have no difficulty in removing a
memory card but maybe you have dexterity problems. Someone should again be
able to tell you the procedure for removing a memory card from the N86.
Finally the OCR is Bayos or something like that, I have not got the spelling
correct. It is a software package which can now be used on Mobile phones
with Talks and costs in the region of £75 but again I can stand corrected.

no i used the old fashioned blue tooth and the long winded way of opening
text message and move to contacts list
not sure what phone switch is
but from what i can make out it is a quicker way of transferring data
One way of knowing if they are on the memory card is to take out the
memory card and see if they are there on the phone.
for this i will need sighted assistance
i can do that myself on my e90 but this handset is not so easy
You might also like to take out your SIM card to check for certain in case
they are on the SIM.

Character Recognition which blind people use when scanning in a document
(print) to read with a screen reader.

it
