I agree with you here Yvonne and i DO NOT HAVE THE ANSWER. I am having the
very same problem when I turn on my e72 so any advise greatly received.
However, unlike Yvonne I do wish to keep my access point defined as I do use it
for Internet and e-mail but it is just so irritating have to press soft key 2
to get rid of it.

when i open the slider i have this annoying choice of connection
it says connect to o2 mobile web and has 2 other choices
i don't want to go on the internet with my phone and i don't want to send and
receive emails either
is there some way i can disable this message so that all i get when i open
the slider is the network i am on and the date etcetera
