So really it's a question of looking at the feature sets of both breez and
kapten plus and then the price of each and taking it from there. I have to say
the market in this area has got rather interesting over the last couple of
years.

And that is what is to happen with the next release so I am reliably informed.
I have checked and I am breaking no confidences letting this be known. I don't
know if any final decisions have been made on price. This will still be £550
or £600, in that kind of region anyway. It's still a big price premium and
more than I really would want to pay.

Hi graham

Am trying to get onto the kapten website now to find out what the price is.

Certainly as things stand at the moment i am seriously considering the kapten
plus now as an alternative. Someone has obviously been working with them to
create this feature set which is definitely targeted at us. Either that, or
someone has done their homework since the demise of access and done it well, or
seemingly so on paper at any rate.

I want to find out how much it is directly from kapseys themselves and what
their returns are like as i'm actually quite eagar to try this out. If the
returns polacy allows for me to do that then i think i'll be making the jump.

As for the breez, well i would like to see it get somewhere and quickly but who
knows at this time. I totally agree with you in that the logical form of
progression the next step would be to make it a full solution now that the pro
has effectively gone.

HI Amie.

As far as the trekker is concerned, it currently does not calculate routes
other than between points of interest or favourites that the user has
entered. there is about to be a new software version released which will
allow this to happen. I know Humanware have not announced this yet but
given the fact that the full trekker is no longer produced as they cannot
find a PDA that works with it, this is a fairly understandable progression.

I know of course that Neil Barnfather needs to market his business but, with
the launch of Windows Mobile version 7 my question is how long will new
phones running windows mobile version 6.5 be produced for? Sadly Microsoft
have done a bad job with windows 7 for mobiles in that it is not accessible
and all the indications, including comments from Microsoft, suggest that
accessibility of the windows 7 mobile platform is at least 18 months away.
So, Mobile Geo from code factory is a good package. It works well and it
could be a good solution though buying it along with a windows mobile phone
could be quite costly.

On to your question about what you get with devices like the Trekker Breeze
or Mobile Geo that you do not get with Ovi Maps or similar. Well, the
standard programs assume you can see where you are so you will not get
information about places of interest near you or a description of a large
road junction. Instead you may get a direction like turn left in 150 yards.
I do not know whether or not it is easy to get the name of the road you are
on with OviMaps, but this feature is probably generally of little use to
sighted people most of the time as of course they can read road signs.

Stuff is being developed for the IPhone as well though this is very
desirable as well and may put you in some danger of being mugged! I am
also interested in the Captain Plus that has been mentioned here. It will
be interesting to see what the price will be and how good a product it turns
out to be.

Regards

Graham

Hi Walter

Any and all info on this topic much appreciated by me. I'm using Talks,
currently, and own a Trekker Pro'. Don't get on with the Trekker at all
though; it's way to hefty and cumbersome for me and too techie; too many
gadgets to carry; too tempting for muggers.

So, I@m looking for a cheap and effective sat' nav' solution. Pretty
urgently needing help with this question. Is anyone finding Trekker Breeze
particularly good? That's at least a sat' nav' in just one box, isn't it?

Thanks lots for any help.

A

Hi. Just out of interest. On one of my other lists some guy posted a
review of a GPS system he is besotted with. He used to use mobile Speak but
doesn't any more as he thinks the system he has now is by far more accurate
and responsive. He is American and I've no idea if it is available here and
in any case, it isn't for me as I now have a Trekker Pro. From what he says
it uses Google maps and uses something called "Walkie Talkie." This is a
female voice. He takes a car trip from his home to a local restaurant and
then back home. I have the sound files here of his trip and if anyone wants
to here it, I'll upload it to Send Space and send you the link, just let me
know. I haven't listened to the entire thing so can't give an honest
opinion but I'm sure you will come to your own conclusion. I also have
another presentation with demonstration in the field of an GPS app for the
Iphone called navagon. I have listened to this one in it's entirety and
thought it was very good. The guy who does the presentation boght all the
USA maps for only $45 and the Navagon app is cheap also. If you want this
one then let me know and I'll upload it. Walter.

Chris,

perhaps, but the question is how long are you prepared to wait, a month, 6
months, a year, or longer? people who have Wayfinder Access need an option
by no later than the end of March 2011.

Hi all.
Let's all try to be positive please. I have no doubts that if Code Factory
can get Ovi Maps to work, so can Nuance. It's just a matter of time. In fact
I was talking to someone at my housing association this morning working at
the sensory team. I told them that I would love to try GPS. This very topic
came up and I was just positive that Talks will come out with similar
support in the future. When it does I will sure upgrade both my phone and
Talks so that I can use Ovi Maps. As I say though, it's just a matter of
time.
Take care.
