Hi Neil,
Thanks for your reply. I get the impression you weren't too thrilled with
my previous post, and I'm sorry if you felt I was insinuating anything by
questioning TalkNav. Interested and versed in business as I am, it's in my
nature to question everything. This even more so as, as you said, this is a
specialist product for the visually impaired in mind. Therefore, the
thought of anyone taking over development would ring some alarm bells with
regard to the new owner's ability to continue providing the high levels of
support and infrastructure customers expect.
You mention TalkNav is owned by the third largest hosting provider. Would
it be violating privacy regulations to ask who that is? Whereas I
personally have no need to feel any concern about the cesation of Wayfinder
Access development, it's clearly a hot topic amongst those who do have a
stake in it, and I was interested in purely an academic sense in knowing
about the potential new owner.
Nevertheless, as you indicated the topic seems mute now as Vodafone has
made their decision. I won't offend you either way by giving my own opinion
on this.

We have not ever developed any products for Symbian, however are owned by a
multinational, third largest hosting business in Europe, thus have a vast
array of experience in development and finding development staff.
For this project we had teamed up with a partner who has a world class
reputation in developing GPS products for the blind and were very confident
that we could continue the product in a conscientious and thought out
manner.
Either way, development and specialist support is surely better than none at
all?
Either way this is irrelevant as Vodafone have made their choice.

Thinking with my business hat on, do TalkNav have any software development
experience to date? Are there any products it has developed in house
(software) that have successfully been brought to market? Just curious.
Also, it is important to note that there are many factors that affect
business decisions. It's a maze of influences, priorities, stakes, etc.
Without hearing from both sides of the story, it's probably best to hold
judgement for now.

Eleanor,
We originally were negotiating to purchase Access from the highest person in
Vodafone Group, who had complete charge of their online product range. There
was no-one higher to dispute or argue this with.
The decision is made, whilst we might have a fight to have if they?d just
cancelled Access, the fact that they wrote the lot off makes that harder.
It doesn?t excuse not allowing us to take it on, but there is more to this
than any of us really know, of that I?m sure of.
