Graham, Well Nokia have simply stated that they are committed to supporting Symbian into 2016, but who knows what phones that will be on, buttons or not, qwerty or keypad, etc, etc. all I can say for now, is that I advise all our clients to hang on in there, there is no need to jump just yet, and I've seen a lot of people jumping to the likes of iPhone and Android, and yet there's really no need yet to do this. Android for me is still a very much undeveloped option, with little to offer a heavy user who wants a consistent experience, someone looking for a new phone isn't going to yet get that... Code Factory's Mobile Accessibility requires a keyboard or track all to use outside their closed specially developed environment, and as such, this limits you to older devices and not the new ones, which seem exclusively to be touch only. Meaning you need a lot of sighted help to mix the use of TalkBack, Mobile Accessibility and Shpeal etc. Just seems like a very unsolid, not quite polished experience... why dump Symbian which we all know and understand with Talks for that... a kin to moving to Africa without any preparation or research, and finding out when you get there that things maybe a whole lot ore pretty on the coast etc, but its a whole lot less developed and things are not quite yet finished everywhere you look. The grass is not always greener you know... iPhone itself has a lot to offer, yet seems to fail in the key important areas of phone usage. On 6 Oct 2011, at 09:07, Graham Page wrote: Hi Neil. This is interesting but how does it sit with a commitment to Windows phones which they will be using for smart phones? If it meanst they will continue to produce phones like the C5 which have more traditional keypads but slightly less power then this is indeed useful. They may not have all the latest features but if this is the plan they are likely to be cheaper. There is I think great uncertainty at the moment and this means that when upgrading a mobile phone it is difficult to know which way to jump. There was a suggestion at one time that Nokia was trying to buy TALKS. if Nokia had shown a real commitment then Nokia would have been a better owner of Talks than Nuance if Nokia built Talks into symbian itself. I prefer a mobile phone with buttons myself. the IPhone is to my way of thinking a great small computer that also includes a phone. I would like a phone that also includes some computing options such as browsing the web and GPS but I simply don't see anyone developing this. There are some android phones with Buttons. the HTC ChaCha is arguably the most interesting of these phones at the moment -----Original Message----- From: talks-uk-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:talks-uk-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Eleanor Burke Sent: 06 October 2011 08:16 To: talks-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [talks-uk] Re: Steve Jobs Passes Away Aged 56 Well Graham I think for a lot of blind people mobile phones with buttons are so important and this is where Talks is great. Not everyone wants a touch screen. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Graham Page" <gpage@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx> To: <talks-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Thursday, October 06, 2011 8:01 AM Subject: [talks-uk] Re: Steve Jobs Passes Away Aged 56 > It's not directly talks related, but what apple has demonstrated, > unsurprisingly perhaps, is that building accessibility directly into > operating systems is the way to go. > > As great and important a product as Talks was, it has always been fighting > a > battle to keep up with accessibility of new phones.
