totally agree. my loyalty to a given company only extends as far as their usefulness goes. if they can deliver the product at a set quality and price then i stick with them. if there's an alternative then i'll always be watching it like jaws and windoweyes. jaws wasn't delivering so i dumped it. fs no longer served their purpose so i dispose of the product. pure and simple. -----Original Message----- From: talks-uk-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:talks-uk-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Vanja Sudar Sent: 16 December 2009 00:16 To: talks-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [talks-uk] Re: Skype beta for Symbian is out, and it is accessible! And because they know that we depend on their product and although there is choice, the choice is quite limited and market is a narrow one they can afford to treat us like this. And please don't tell me how I should be grateful to have all this software and all that, yes I am grateful, but I also pay for it out of my own pocket. Sure I know that it takes time to develop software, sure I know it's not easy, sure I realise companies should protect their own commercial interest, but it doesn't hurt to treat us paying customers with a bit more respect. It doesn't hurt to reassure us if something is not working or not accessible that it has being worked on. Yes, Steve did that yesterday on here and I respect that, but companies like nuance and Freedom Scientific in general have tendency to keep us in the dark. No Nuance are not the only secretive company out there. Yes companies need to protect commercially sensitive information but I think they often take this too far. Steve we do go round and round with this one but people just don't get the point. the real issue here is why nuance is so secretive about what it is doing. I do have issues with Microsoft for sure, but at least when it brings out a new operating system we get some official information from the company before release. Nuance however appears to give absolutely nothing away about what might be in new versions of talks until they are released. Like Microsoft Office, Talks would seem to me to have little in the way of serious competition in terms of market share. there is Mobile Speak but that seems to be more for Windows phones, I know very few who use the Nokia version. The new Nokia email program used in phones like the N86 is quite graphical in nature and the question is whether it will ever work with Talks at all? It may even be more sensible for Nuance to produce its own symbian mail client. I understand that Symbian is to become opoen source so this would be quite possible. I would happily email someone at Nuance to ask their advice on this new email client and I think an official response would reassure many users. Is there someone we can email or would it be possible for dealers to apply any gentle pressure on Nuance to provide statements on what is happening here? Hi Vanja, Why is it questionable that Email will work on the N86? I can assure you Nuance are working on it, but I can't give a release date. I tried to install this on my n91, but it does not work. When starting installation it told me that the application is not compatible with the phone, but asked me if I wanted to install anyway, which I did. When I tried to run it, it just told me that feature is not supported. I do realise that this is an old phone. My contract is out and I do want to upgrade. I initially wanted n86, but since email doesn't work with talks and looks like it is questionable if it ever will and email is essential to me unfortunately looks like I'll have to consider other options, but that's another subject.
