What I would hope for most of all with Nuance is that they read the Talks lists
and hear what we say. that will be good enough for me if then in subsequent
updates of Talks we see that they have listened.

yes indeed and as many will know companies like humanware in Canada have been
so secretive about the development of Braillenote I would argue they probably
damaged their market share and the trust in the company. No Nuance are not the
only secretive company out there. Yes companies need to protect commercially
sensitive information but I think they often take this too far.

Graham, just as an example, Freedom Scientific are just as secretive.

Steve we do go round and round with this one but people just don't get the
point. the real issue here is why nuance is so secretive about what it is
doing.

I do have issues with Microsoft for sure, but at least when it brings out a
new operating system we get some official information from the company before
release. Nuance however appears to give absolutely nothing away about what
might be in new versions of talks until they are released.

Like Microsoft Office, Talks would seem to me to have little in the way of
serious competition in terms of market share. there is Mobile Speak but that
seems to be more for Windows phones, I know very few who use the Nokia version.

The new Nokia email program used in phones like the N86 is quite graphical in
nature and the question is whether it will ever work with Talks at all? It may
even be more sensible for Nuance to produce its own symbian mail client. I
understand that Symbian is to become opoen source so this would be quite
possible. I would happily email someone at Nuance to ask their advice on this
new email client and I think an official response would reassure many users.
Is there someone we can email or would it be possible for dealers to apply any
gentle pressure on Nuance to provide statements on what is happening here?

  Regards

  Graham

  Hi Vanja,

Why is it questionable that Email will work on the N86? I can assure you
Nuance are working on it, but I can’t give a release date.

  All the best

  Steve

I tried to install this on my n91, but it does not work. When starting
installation it told me that the application is not compatible with the phone,
but asked me if I wanted to install anyway, which I did. When I tried to run
it, it just told me that feature is not supported. I do realise that this is an
old phone. My contract is out and I do want to upgrade. I initially wanted n86,
but since email doesn't work with talks and looks like it is questionable if it
ever will and email is essential to me unfortunately looks like I'll have to
consider other options, but that's another subject.

      Hi Steve

I don't have any problem about discussion of third party apps which work
with talks on talks phones so no problem with this. Cheers!

      Hi folks,

Apologies Graham, this is not strictly Talks but it is exciting news none
      the less.

Skype have released a beta client and it would appear to be very
accessible,
including Skype chat, Skypeout, and free Skype to Skype calls.

      Get it here:-
