Hi Eleanor,

I appreciate what you're saying about your not having actively installed
anything which seems to be substantially large in terms of file size or
memory used.

I asked you to clarify your free space on the phone memory, as I was unsure
whether the 2,2 MB you stated was 2.2MB or a typo meaning 22MB. If the
latter, this is definitely low and would be a prime candidate for causing
your problem with attempting to install your application.

The web cache is a store of pages and their elements, including images,
which your web browser stores as you browse the web. This is not something
you would have installed, but would have built up over time. Its purpose is
to speed up web browsing to frequently visited sites as the same major
elements of the page don't need to be downloaded again. However, as I said
over time this can build up and can cause low memory problems, as I can
attest to on my N95 8GB.

Hence my asking you to verify this. If you can statistically confirm this
is not the problem we can start investigating other possibilities, but let's
rule out the obvious first.

Hi Eleanor,

The file system on the phone may be different hence why you may notice the
same file seems to take up more space there than on your computer or other
devices.

If you mean 2.2MB free on the phone memory, this is very low indeed and it
would explain your error trying to install your application. I suggest you
take a look through the list that appears when you select to view memory
details, see which folders are using the most space, and see if you can't
shift some content onto the mass memory.

For comparison, my N95 8GB has 22MB free. I started noticing some minor
problems at 16MB free. You may have taken up a lot of space on the phone
memory with the internet cache. It may be worth emptying this. This will
not affect overall phone performance, but will free up badly needed space.

I did not get file manager that way but I have got in to file manager and it
says phone memory 2,2MB but I am perplexed, can it not tell me how much
memory I have used up, I have very little on the c part of the memory. I
have 13.1GB free on the e part of the Mass Memory. It is a 16GB memory
phone. I cannot understand where all the data is then over 2GB!!!!

Hi,

Could you check the remaining memory on the phone please? Go to Menu >
Tools > File Manager > Options > Memory details. Let it scan the memory and
then advise. This is just to rule out for definite that there is not
actually insufficient space on the phone memory.

Subject: [talks-uk] Phone Memory N96

Hi
I install Applications to the phone memory. An N96 has a lot of memory
without a memory card. I have Applications only on the phone memory as such
and all other data on the other part of the phone memory. Excuse me not
being technical but hopefully you will understand what I am trying to say, I
think they call it Mass Memory!!! Anyway, we all know the N96 has its
problems and mine does with my e-mail boxes being obliterated from time to
time. However, a new and strange one for me in the past few days, Eloquence
was totally deleted from the phone, but I still had the tts voice so I was
not totally lost so Talks was still there. I reinstalled Eloquence so that
is fine. Now I come to the problem I am having recently. When I go to
install on the phone, I get a message about memory low and to delete files
in order to free up space. This is when I am installing to the phone's
memory but I haven't anything more on it than I have on the memory of my N95
Standard so I am not stretching the phone memory. Anyone got any ideas on
this one please.

Eleanor

hi Emma.
the problem could be that you are installing applications to the "mass
memory", in the N95 8GB anyway, the internal mass memory processes
information at a slower rate than the phone memory, I have found this with
my Nokia N95 - 8GB. Not sure which version of the nokia N95 that you have,
but my suggestion is to install as many applications as you can to the phone
memory, and this also includes talks, hopefully this may help to resolve
your problem. also close any unused applications that may be consuming
executable memory in the phone. this may speed up response time.

Best regards

Paul
