I got a Nokia 5500 from Virgin. I'm hoping it will work as it's Symbian Series 60 and a gorgeous little phone.

I think the trouble is that there are quite a few newish phones coming out
now. We've got the N series with the 70, 73, 80, 90, 91 and 93. There's
the E series with the 50, 60 61 and 70 and I'm not sure on which phones will
work properly as they haven't been tested without a compatible version of
talks. They're all series 60 third generation, apart from I think the N70
which is still second generation. The worrying thing is though that a lot
of the new N series phones have been withdrawn from the phone companies.
Voda stopped doing all the N phones except the 70 and 73 as have O2. They
say that the N series has had a software problem and have therefore stopped
supplying them. Don't know about the E series though. I've got an N73
brand new on orange but no talks yet, haha!

Best wishes.

Steve

No word on Vodafone Steve. I've just left them as after an 18 month contract
all they offered me was a new phone, no better tariff, so that's how they
reward loyalty? I've changed to Virgin and their coverage and customer
service have been spot on to date. Any word on where we'll get info on
phones that will work with TALKS? I'm a bit concerned about people buying
the wrong phones as it's hard from dealers to get a definitv list of
compatible handsets.

Hi All,

Not much more news but at least heading in the right direction. I've just
had some information from Nuance re the new release. Basically, they are
waiting to finalise certification of talks with Nokia before they can
release the new version. The new generation of symbian OS is considerably
more complex in terms of certification of any programs installed and
therefore, as Talks integrates with every application, service and feature
of the phone, it has to have complete clearance from nokia before it will be
allowed to function. I guess we need to blame Nokia for this one! smiles.
Nuance say it will be 2 to 3 weeks for the contracts to be completed and a
version released.

BTW anyone know what voda are now doing in terms of talks on their phones?
I've given up with their customer service and have just taken out a new
orange contract. It is exceptionally good. A new Nokia N73 on the nnew
Racoon 35 Tarriff. This gives me 550 cross network minutes, 200 texts but
most of all, unlimited landline calls! and the phone was free! haha, though
it does cost £35 a month!

Best regards.

Steve
