Well maybe then it won't work with N85, I think that is the phone you have now.

I was trying to say that no matter how high or low above the document I had
the phone the thing wouldn't take the picture.

The beeps were so random it was difficult for me to tell anything meaningful
from them.

I also read the instructions thoroughly and acted on them.

I have to smile but I am sure Paul will forgive us and I am sure he will
explain himself more clearly on this one.

    Hi Eleanor,

I wondered about that too, since the viewfinder comes straight on when Beyo
is first loaded. Seems odd that the sighted person can't take a photograph of
a printed page straight. I can understand any blind person not lining it up,
but not a sighted person, not really.

    All the best

    Steve

Paul I am of course not Steve but interested in the content of your e-mail
as you send directly to the list. Are you saying that a sighted person was
unable to line up your camera? Surely I have misunderstood that!!!

      Thanks Steve.

I tried with sighted help and they couldn't do it either.

Never mind... If I can't get it to work and they can't, then it won't be
any good for me ultimately anyway.

      Cheers.

      Paul

      Hi Paul,

You are just not quite lining up correctly. The beeps are probably still
not high enough for you to be in focus.

I suggest you get sighted help to help you hold and align the camera.
That's what I did.

      All the best

      Hey Steve.

I'm full of hope for this thing but haven't found much yet.

Any tips would be gratefully received, I have done the following
according to the readme document.

      Using a nokia n85:

      Opened the Camera slider.

      Opened the application.

      It starts beeping.

Trying to move the phone from almost touching the page, very slowly
raising the phone up to try to get the beeps on a higher constant and they just
go from low to high to low again.

Holding the phone around the point where the beeps are higher as a
constant than lower.

Keeping the phone as still as possible for a minute in some cases but, no
automatic taking of the page.

I did force one by pressing the middle select key a couple of times but,
then the app says no text found.

I'd be interested in your thoughts.

I did install the fp2 version as suggested by you.

      Thanks.

      Paulto

      Hi Paul,

I think it is pretty darned good for the price.

But you can download it for yourself at http://www.comproom.co.uk For
the N85, I believe you will need the FP2 version. You get a 14 day demo, and
the cost is 75 pounds.

      All the best

      Hi Steve.

Do you have more info on the Beyo reader please?

Any thoughts as to how good it is?

Will it work on the N85?

      Thanks much.

      Hi Paul,

I have a Windows Mobile phone, and Mobile Speak. They are a lot less
stable than Symbian phones in my view, and the cameras are better on Symbian
phones. Think carefully before you do that, especially if you want something
like TextScout, or even the Beyo reader, which is only 75 pounds.

No, I think they still have it, I wanted to upgrade to the E72 as the
camera works with Textscout but may well go down the Windows mobile route now.

How very interesting. Have vodafone stopped the e71 now? I have an e71
from Vodafone which I only got a short time ago!!! The qwerty keypad is
excellent and I am getting faster and faster at using it, certainly mty speed
now must be equal to that of the numeric key pad and that was fast. never
thought I could achieve this on the qwerty. I do not use predictive type text
either but maybe one day I will give that a go. I get fed up with having to
insert words that are not there already and if I just do it out long-hand so to
speak then I know what I am doing.

        Hi

I have the E72 from Vodafone, but hopefully not for much longer!

I think it is fair to say it would be a good practical solution for
people who like to keep up with emails, appointments, documents etc on the move
if they had tested with Talks before it was released.

the Calendar and help functions remain inaccessible at present and are
completely unusable. Email is readable with Roadsync, though the device also
comes with Mail4Exchange. It is also worth noting that the browser and Talks
are not stable and constantly crash. So, I suppose it's worth avoiding this
one currently until accessibility issues are resolved. I also tried with
Mobile speak but removed it after about 10 minutes.

        Hi all.

I eventually plan to get out and about to look at these phones but I
wondered if anyone had any opinions before I do.

Vodafone do 3 phones it seems with WiFI and GPS that could work with
Talks, Namely the N85, the E72 and the N97. The N97 is touch screen so I tend
to discount that. The E72 is interesting. I am yet to be convinced that a
tiny qwerty keyboard is practical when typing. I think I would rather have a
keypad with buttons in a 3 by 4 configuration as if the keyboard is standard
qwerty in layout I assume the numbers must end up in a row from 1 to 0 which
would be quite different from using a number pad. I have also heard that
compromise in the audio side has been made that means Talks is not so stable
though I believe the latest talks release helps.

Then there is the N85. the keys seem rather flat compared with the N95
I have but it appears to have a conventional keypad as well. I believe it
uses an older symbian 3rd generation feature pack so calendar and in-built
email work well. I have read reviews that suggest poor design quality however
the included options look good so the question is I suppose, is how manageable
is the E72 and is it likely to struggle with JAWS and would the N85 therefore
be the better ;phone to go for?
