Then you'd be Apple wouldn't you? Hi graham, Yup agreed there. But equally if you were manufacturing the hardware as well then the relationship between device and software would then be truly harmonious and you wouldn't then want additional devices I suppose. The acception to the rule being the early design braillenotes and packmates to which I had both and wish I hadn't bothered. Don't know what the newer note takers are like for example, but even so I wouldn't want to carry one around purely for the sake of a gps. Would be too much of an effort really. If it was a tossup between that and going for the kapten for example, I'd choose the latter and do my best to make it work. Wouldn't want to look like something out of a sci-fi movie if you know what I mean. It really does draw attention to you. -----Original Message----- From: talks-uk-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:talks-uk-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Graham Page Sent: 17 June 2010 16:04 To: talks-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [talks-uk] Re: First Wayfinder, now Trekker, where do we go from here? I would certainly agree with this unless of course you are responsible for manufacturing the hardware as well as creating the software. I am surprised however that the trekker software can't be adapted slightly to work on any windows smart phone. It does seem that we are going backwards in this area. I don't really like touch screens that much but it seems to me that if we are going to have to use them anyway we may as well go the route of the IPhone I don't know if there are accessible gps solutions for use on that platform. Well really that's their fault for locking the programme to 1 device and 1 device alone. That's always the problem when you create a blind friendly environmental shell to opperate in. no flexibility. Which is why that route is never good to go down. -----Original Message----- From: talks-uk-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:talks-uk-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Steve Nutt Sent: 16 June 2010 20:49 To: talks-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [talks-uk] Re: First Wayfinder, now Trekker, where do we go from here? Hi Walter, There is a different reason for this though. They can no longer get the PDAs, so this is why Trekker has been discontinued. Hi Jackie. Yes, that's right, Human Ware have announced an upgrade for the Trekker Pro but they have discontinued it and will no longer sell it as from now apart from clearing the stock they have and that only amounts to units in single figures. I spoke to them on the phone twice this week and that's the info I received. I can't understand why such a company who developed such a high spec product such as the Trekker can't turn their minds to developing an app for mobiles that is totally accessible and compatible with Talks. A huge gap in the market is developing and surely someone will fill it. I guess the financial situation though has hit research and development pretty hard. Whatever the case, things are getting more difficult in as much as it is now hard to find a reliable and accurate and accessible GPS system we can use via the mobile and Mobiles are becoming more difficult to access with the popularity of touch screens. With the appearance of the touch screen IPad, soon pcs and laptops will be keyboard free and only touch screen., more marginalisation I'm afraid.
