Paul did you have to send your phone in to Vodafone and if yes how long did it
take? Also did you have to reload everything back on to it, e.g. Talks and all
other applications.

I agree, the firmware has made some small but worth while improvements.

Video sound quality is better and camera is more stable too if you can see to
use that of course.

My firmware update was through Vodafone.

The only downside is that there is a script alert message which keeps popping
up in the web browser now, that wasn't there before. Never mind though, it
isn't a huge problem.

  Hi Everyone,

For those of you who have a Nokia N96 and your provider has not made more
recent Firmware updates available to you, I have good news.

I searched for updates yesterday and was allowed to download and install
Firmware Update 30.033. This fixed a number of issues which I previously had
with the phone.

  1. Daisy2Go now works fine on the phone. With the previous firmware, an error
would result when the application was launched, however, now, books can be
added to the bookshelf without problem and played.
  2. The Radio now works a lot better. Previously, there would be long breaks
of silence when listening to radio stations and I thought it was just the
reception area I was in at the time. Now, listening to the radio is clear and
continuous.
  3. This firmware automatically locks the phone's keypad when the slide is
closed, avoiding buttons being accidentally pressed and Talks informs the user
of this. Of course, if you want to use the keypad when the phone is closed, you
can flick the small Keypad Lock button at the top of the phone to release the
buttons for use.
  4. You can now choose to answer the phone or end a call by opening the slide
or closing it respectively.

There may be other benefits from the new Firmware which I have not discovered
yet, however, I am much happier now with the phone in general.

If you wish to check for updates, please do the following from your phone -

  1. Select the Menu (Talks key twice).
  2. Arrow down to Tools and select it.
  3. Arrow down to Utilities and select it.
  4. Arrow down to Device Manager and select it.
  5. Talks now reads the current version of your firmware to you and, presuming
that your phone can connect to the internet, you can press the left Option key
to initiate a Search for Updates.
  6. If you get an entry back which says that a Software update is available,
press the left Option key to accept it and to commence the download. My phone
was originally with O2, but I'm now using a Virgin SIM in it.
  7. Talks will recommend that you back up the phone before applying the
update. I took a chance and did not do this myself and, thankfully, the update
proceeded without a hitch. You may wish to back up your phone first.
  8. The process does take some minutes to complete, during which time the
phone is re-started. If you have Talks 4.0, you should be able to check the
progress of the download (Talks reads this every 5 seconds or so). If your
screen saver comes up and you don't hear anything for a while, just tap the
Talks key.
  9. When you acknowledge that the phone is going to restart, there will be a
number of minutes of silence and then, when the phone is restarted, Talks will
speak as normal.
  10. I had previously uninstalled Daisy2Go, when it was not working for me. I
re-installed this after the Firmware update and all worked well.

I do hope that this works for you. I did not have to get my phone unlocked or
rebranded. It was just a case of waiting until the latest Firmware Update was
made available.

  Many Thanks, With Kind Regards,
