Paul Vodafone insist that to update the firmware is possible. I tried myself but they did tell me I could send it in to then amd they would do it for me. Have you your new phone now? What about your Talks? I actually like the N96 very much. -original message- Subject: [talks-uk] Re: Firmware Update N96 Disaster From: "All formats" <allformats@xxxxxxxxx> Date: 26/05/2009 11:11 am Again: Absolutely best advice here. I had been thinking of getting my phone unbranded but, this thread reminds me precisely why I won't. I would rather wait for Vodafone, in my case to release their firmware, if they ever do than try to circumvent the process early and get into a mess. I have also had to claim on my phone insurance over the last week as I dropped the phone down the loo. At least I won't have any worries about being found out about any unbranding exercise I may have undertaken and having a non valid claim. Cheers. It is made perfectly clear in the Nokia software updater, on the software updater support pages and when you confirm that you want to upgrade that serious damage can be done to the phone when you interrupt power. You should use a fully charged battery, under no circumstances disconnect the phone from the computer or touch it in any way whilst the upgrade is in progress. In fact, the best thing to do when upgrading your phone is to go grab yourself a cup of coffee and keep yourself occupied for at least 15 minutes whilst the phone does its thing. Its most probable that you've corrupted the flash memory in the phone, that the phone will need to be sent off for repair and depending on the warrantee of the phone you may get charged for any repairs if indeed it is possible. Finally, last but not least, never upgrade a phone if you are unsure or uncertain of the process. Take the phone to a Nokia service centre who will do the same for you free of charge and in a correct environment should problems occur. All the best, Ibrahim Gucukoglu. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Eleanor Burke" <eleanorburke@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx> To: <talks-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Thursday, May 21, 2009 3:26 AM Subject: [talks-uk] Re: Firmware Update N96 Disaster I think i have done it damage as no power is now going through but I have tested the battery on another phone amd it is working fine. It is crazy if one can damage the phone by trying to upgrade the firmware. What is the point of it then. I was following the instructions OK. -original message- Subject: [talks-uk] Re: Firmware Update N96 Disaster From: "Badger" <monty_badger@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> Date: 21/05/2009 3:16 am silly question, but do you have anybody sited there? it will lose talks etc and need to be reconfigured after an upgrade. but if it's lost power during the process, you could have done it a heep of damage. ----- Original Message ----- From: ELEANOR BURKE To: talks-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Thursday, May 21, 2009 2:44 AM Subject: [talks-uk] Firmware Update N96 Disaster I tried doing this tonight and disaster befell the phone! Not only did it loose connection with PC Suite. I took all the advice given on screen, removing the USB, removing the bttery etc but the phone is completely dead. Sad really. I only have it a month. Any ideas from anyone before I go back to the shop with it, something to revive or resussitate it.
